Due to stigma or public appearance many locations in which investigations take place are kept anonymous. The secrecy prevents bad publicity in public places such as hotels or business, however at the same time anonymity serves to protect history. The curators for this particular location wished to keep this Central Texas location vague in response to the great deal of damage which occurred around the city in which The Blair Witch Project was filmed in 1999. The curators did not want the location of the hunt documented because of the effect that the movie had on Burkittsville, Maryland and the many instances of vandalism and aggressive tourism that occurred afterward.
